This year’s Evening in the Tropics was a resounding success, bringing together more than 184 participants in celebration of Hope for Haitians’ mission to build sustainable communities in northern Haiti.
Guests enjoyed a vibrant evening of dining, music, and fellowship while also engaging with the Hope in Action Tour. The interactive stations offered dynamic and informative opportunities for participants to experience the impact of clean water, safe housing, microloans, education, and other life-changing initiatives supported by Hope for Haitians.
The evening also featured a lively auction, which was met with enthusiastic participation and generous giving, helping raise vital funds to continue village development efforts in Haiti.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Ambassador of the Poor Award to Bill Derry, whose dedication and service exemplify the spirit of compassion and solidarity at the heart of Hope for Haitians.
In addition, the organization recognized two generous legacy gifts, honoring Fern Shore and Bob and Mary Lou McLaughlin for their bequests that will sustain Hope for Haitians’ mission well into the future.
Thanks to the commitment of our supporters, Evening in the Tropics 2025 was not just a celebration, but a powerful reminder that together we are building hope, dignity, and opportunity for families in Haiti.

Each station, led by a board member, offered stories, data, and personal insights into how these initiatives transform lives in Haiti.
