About Dan
On a Mission to Make a Difference!
When Dan Maguire, his wife and 17 year old daughter traveled to Haiti as part of a mission trip in 2018, they experienced first-hand the stark reality of people living lives of unimaginable deprivation. They also saw how Hope for Haitians was transforming the lives of families one village at a time with homes, water, sanitation, education, safety, sustainable food, medical care, and development of income producing activities.
So, how are Haiti, Hope For Haitians and The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon linked? They are linked by one person’s life changing experience in Haiti in 2018. Doing nothing was no longer an option. Doing anything you can think of is.
Entry into this race is a blind drawing offered globally that allows for only 2,000 entrants. Dan was picked once before, for the 2018 Escape, and completed it. This time, Dan and his brother Raymond put their names in for the 2022 Escape. Dan was picked, unfortunately his brother was not. Because he wouldn’t be able to race with his brother, Dan was going to decline his slot. But then he thought, this could be a great way to raise awareness and funding for Hope For Haitians.

“The poorest country in the Western Hemisphere gave me one of the greatest gifts I have ever received: a more grateful and aware perspective. I remember thinking to myself numerous times: Now that I have seen what is happening here, doing nothing is no longer an option, doing anything I can is.”
