Mikerline – Viard
Mikerline is a married 32-year-old resident of Viard in Northern Haiti. She and her husband Renaud Lagguerre have five children, 2 boys and 3 girls.
As anyone with a large family knows keeping track of 5 kids is a fulltime job. Some time ago, Mikerline had a small business thanks to a local microcredit program but keeping up with her children’s needs made that impossible to continue.
Her husband Renaud works to provide food and other necessities, but it was impossible for them to afford a place of their own. Mikerline shares what their living situation was like,
“We lived with my mother-in-law, my husband’s mother. The house had a hole in the roof, and we lived in proximity because there were 8 of us for only two rooms.”
Crowded and leaky it was the only place they could stay until they were selected to receive a home by Hope for Haitians. Mikerline shares her gratitude and joy telling us “I am delighted to be able to sleep comfortably with my family in my own home.”
Sleeping comfortably is important for her 5-year-old son who is in his early years of schools and has dreams of his own. He shared with us,
“My name is Reynalson Laguerre, I’m five years old. I am in the 2nd year of preschool at Nouvelle Esperance college. My dream is to become a footballer like Lionel Messi. My best friend is Samy, who I love to play soccer with at school. “
Who knows maybe someday we will see him in the world cup, but until then he and his four other siblings have a safe secure home, and a the opportunity that education provides.
For Reynalson and his brothers and sisters a safe home is more than a clean dry place to sleep. Because of the solar powered lighting it is also a secure place to do homework. The difference one home, one light bulb can make on educational opportunity is incalculable.
Those who support the work of Hope for Haitians have made a tremendous difference to the Compere family in the present moment and in the future to be lived by their children. Thank you.
